Michael* grew up in a conservative, religious, Yemeni, Muslim family.
“I grew up confused and terrified by a god that waited to burn me and did not make me feel his loving presence,” Michael said.
After leaving home to pursue his career, Michael rejected all religion and all notion of God for several years.
Everything changed when Michael had an encounter with Jesus and knew he had to begin following Him. When he announced his decision, his family quickly rejected him and his newfound faith. Alone and confused, Michael prayed and asked God how he could find a Christian community in Yemen, where the number of Christians are only a few thousand.
His pursuit led him to an online program through our partners at Bethlehem Bible College in the Holy Land. He received training in evangelism, theology, and discipleship for the very first time.
“I joined the program to strengthen my faith and learn how to share God’s Word with my people,” Michael said.
He connected with local Christians in his community who are also persisting in their faith despite oppressive regimes and the ongoing war. Soon, others began to notice that Michael had a great ability to share his story with others in his community. He is now involved in church formation in Yemen, discipling others and sharing his faith with those around him. He also serves as an elder and part-time pastor.
And despite great persecution and war in Yemen, Michael is discipling 16 fellow new believers and evangelizing four other Yemenis.
